Farmers' Markets - where LOCAL producers network and sell
Farmers' Markets are a great platform for producers to sell their goods directly to customers. Often on a tight budget, they are run by volunteers or part-time managers. FMNZ offers support to existing markets and markets that are starting out. Members also benefit from advertising and advocating on a national level.
WHAT IS A FARMERS' MARKET?
Although the term "Farmers' Market" implicates that farmers sell their own produce at the market, it gets often used by markets that resale produce.
How can "real" Farmers' Markets distinguish themselves from other markets?
FMNZ offers optional authenticity certificates to member markets where vendors sell their own locally produced food.
3 GOLDEN RULES:
1. Primarily food is sold (no arts, craft, bric-a-brac) with exceptions for plants and flowers
2. Food is produced within a defined local area
3. Vendors must be directly involved in the growing or production process of the food (no on-selling)
